How do I register?

You can begin registering for classes approximately two business days after you complete the admissions process. To register, first select classes from the system college catalog. Students log into the catalog and use the “add this class” function to request registration. Once the service center staff receives a registration request, they will check for prerequisites and class availability, and complete the registration process for you. Remember you can take classes from more than one school at the same time.

Confirm you are Eligible to Register

You are eligible to register for classes approximately two business days of completing your UEC account (fill out the online form and pay the fee). You can skip up to three semesters and still be eligible to register.  After three semesters, you will need to update your information and resubmit the application fee.

Seek Academic Advisement

College is too much work to register for classes without good advice. Academic advisors help you sequence the classes to ensure you take all the coursework needed to graduate. This is particularly important when you plan to complete an online certificate or degree program. The service center staff can answer basic questions about general education and graduation and major requirements.  For more specific questions, speak with an academic advisor at your home college.  Speak with a department advisor for questions specific to your declared major.

Search for Classes

Once you know what classes you need, find out which of these classes is offered each semester. There are generally over 1,200 classes in the system catalog each semester.  You can search for classes you need by any of the following criteria: department, course number, course title, subject, major, provider college, and delivery method.  If you cannot find the class you need, try modifying your search criteria.  If that doesn’t work, contact the service center.  Let our staff help you locate classes.

Register for Classes

When you find a class you want to take, you submit a registration request online from the college catalog (click “Add Class”). You will need your UEC username and password to register. Register early: distance delivered classes, particularly online classes, fill up quickly. Check for pre- and co-requisites when you are registering for class.  Contact the service center staff immediately to find out what you need to provide to show you have completed the prerequisites for the class.

Follow Tuition and Payment Deadlines

After you have registered, you will receive, via email, a tuition invoice. Tuition is due in full the first day of classes. Check the academic calendar for specific dates. You may pay tuition online with a credit card.

Add/Drop Classes

After your initial registration request, you may add or drop classes until the first day of the semester.  Most partner schools allow you to add classes after the semester starts; some require instructor permission.  Check with the UEC staff first when you want to change your schedule after school has started.

Each school has a different deadline for dropping classes without instructor permission. If you want to drop a class and not be responsible for tuition, drop the class before the semester begins. Formal withdrawal must be requested through the UEC and done online via the UEC registration process, or in writing.  If you do not formally drop the class, you are responsible to pay tuition. Also, you may receive a failing grade.  To add or drop courses online, follow the same process you used to register online.

Purchase Books

You should purchase textbooks and other course materials as soon as possible.  It may take a week or more to receive materials in the mail. Textbooks may be purchased from the provider school or home school bookstore, a commercial or online bookstore. To ensure you purchase the correct textbook, refer to your class list, which lists instructors and section numbers, prior to contacting the bookstore. See bookstore list.
